I had a dream that didn’t come true.
It gave me hope. It made me new.
‘Twas a dream of caring, of warmth and of love.
But lately, I suppose, I’ve just given up.
I still have this dream from time to time.
It grips my heart, consumes my mind--
But not for long. The time has come
To move on. That song is sung.
I don’t ask, “What if...?” just, “What now?”
And I ask myself, “How?”
What else can make me feel so deep?
What else can fill my lonely need
But the elegance and graciousness,
depth, vivaciousness,
strength and tenderness
That, in my dream, I possess?
I love this dream.
This dream is you.
